Rivers United, the former Nigeria Premier League champions, have firmly rebuffed an offer from Tanzanian club Azam FC for their prized goalkeeper, Victor Sochima.
The club has placed an impressive N76,927,000 ($100,00) price tag on Sochima as they set to hold onto their star player.
With aspirations to reclaim the NPFL title from Enyimba and establish their dominance in the upcoming season, Rivers United is resolute in retaining their top-notch goalkeeper.
Azam FC, the Tanzanian club, has shown keen interest in acquiring services of the player, despite his contract nearing its expiration.
However, their initial offer of N38,463,000 was swiftly dismissed by Rivers United. The club has now communicated that a fee of N76 Million is required for Azam FC to secure the goalkeeper’s transfer.
It’s worth noting that Sochima could potentially depart on a free transfer after the upcoming season if Rivers United does not accept an offer before then.
At 24 years old, Sochima played a pivotal role in Rivers United’s NPFL title victory during the 2022 campaign.
He also featured prominently in the team’s journey to the Super Six playoffs in Lagos State, where they narrowly missed out on the 2023 title against the Peoples Elephant.
Looking ahead, Sochima is expected to lead the charge for Rivers United in the CAF Confederations Cup in the upcoming season.
