Remo Stars appoint Olumide Ajibolade as head coach after relegation from the NPFL

Remo Stars have appointed Olumide Ajibolade as the club’s new head coach, turning to one of the longest-serving members of their football structure as they begin life outside the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, following last season’s relegation.

Ajibolade takes charge after over five years in charge of Beyond Limits Football Academy, where he established a reputation as one of the country’s leading youth coaches. His promotion marks the latest example of Remo Stars placing faith in a coach developed within their own system rather than looking elsewhere for experience.

The appointment also reflects the philosophy that has underpinned the Remo Stars Sports Club project in recent years. While results at first-team level ended in disappointment with relegation from the NPFL in the 2025/26 campaign, the academy pathway has continued to produce both trophies and players, with Ajibolade at the centre of much of that success.

He first joined the organisation in 2019 as head coach of the Remo Stars Academy Under-17 side before moving to Beyond Limits Football Academy when the project was launched two years later in 2021.

What followed was one of the most sustained periods of success by any academy side in Nigerian football.

Beyond Limits won five “ The Creative Championship ‘’, TCC League titles in six seasons under Ajibolade, while adding consecutive TCC Cup triumphs, the TCC Super Cup and two Ogun State FA Cup titles. Those achievements established the academy as a consistent force domestically, but the coach’s influence extended beyond youth competitions.

He guided Beyond Limits from the Nationwide League One to the Nigeria National League before securing promotion to the NPFL in the following campaign. The team completed that run by winning the Nigeria National League title, underlining the speed of their rise through the domestic pyramid.

His work has international recognition attached also.

Beyond Limits lifted the Viareggio Cup in Italy in 2024, becoming one of the few Nigerian academy sides to win the prestigious youth tournament, before adding successive Gothia Cup titles in Sweden in 2025 and 2026.

The silverware, however, tells only part of the story.

Ajibolade has built a reputation for developing young players capable of making the transition into senior football. Several graduates from the Beyond Limits project have progressed to professional clubs in Nigeria and across Europe reinforcing the academy’s standing as one of the country’s most productive talent factories.

That background is likely to be central to Remo Stars’ thinking.

Rather than appointing an established coach from outside the organisation, the club have opted for continuity at a time when they face the challenge of rebuilding after relegation. Ajibolade inherits a team aiming to return to the top flight, while maintaining the possession-based identity that has become synonymous with the wider Remo Stars Sports Club project.

Managing a senior side chasing promotion presents a different test from academy football. Expectations are higher, the scrutiny is greater and immediate results matter more than long-term development.

Even so, there is little doubt why Remo Stars believe he is ready.

Few coaches understand the club’s structure better, and even fewer have played such a significant role in shaping the pathway that has supplied talent to both the first team and clubs abroad.

His appointment is less a change of direction than an extension of an idea Remo Stars have spent years building.

The next challenge is proving that the same approach which transformed Beyond Limits into one of Nigeria’s leading academy teams can now return Remo Stars to the NPFL.
