The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued significant penalties to Enyimba International FC and Rangers International FC following the contentious Matchday 35 game at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Enyimba FC was found in violation of several regulations, including improper conduct, interrupting a live broadcast, throwing objects on the field, entering the field without permission, and refusing to continue the match, Elegbetetv reports.
As a result, the club has been fined N9 million (around $22,000 USD) and has forfeited three points and three goals to Rangers.
Moreover, Enyimba is required to identify and provide evidence for further investigation and sanctioning of other involved players and officials.
The players identified are Eze Ekwutoziam (No. 6), Chibuike Nwaiwu (No. 27), and Akanni Elijah (No. 10).
Rangers International FC was also found guilty of several breaches, such as over-ticketing, inadequate security, and poor crowd control.
The club has been fined N5 million (around $12,000 USD) and must improve its crowd control measures for future home games.
Both clubs have 48 hours to accept these penalties or choose to be adjudicated by a disciplinary panel.
This ruling follows an in-depth review of the official reports from the Matchday 35 match, which ended in disruption by Enyimba fans, causing the game to be abandoned.
