Bayelsa United will have their star Robert Mizo to thank after the striker produced a moment of magic to claw them back from the hands defeat against Abia Warriors during their NPFL matchday 11 on Sunday.

Bayelsa United were losing 2 nil at home against the Ochendo Boys until you know “Who!” Robert Mizo stepped up to grab a late-minute brace at the Samson Siaisia Stadium.

Warriors raced into a two-goal lead through Samson Obi and Ibrahim Dehinde before Robert Mizo scored two late goals to rescue his team, Bayelsa United, from a potential home defeat.

Bayelsa United were losing 2-0 to Abia Warriors and were on their way to their third home loss of the season until they scored a brace in four minutes to lead the final score at 2-2 after the full-time whistle.

Before the Umuahia Boys scored their two quick goals in the 76th and 79th minutes, Robert Mizo had a clear-cut chance to put the home side in front just nine minutes into the game, but his effort went wide.

The 23-year-old forward pulled one back for Bayelsa United through a brilliant freekick in the 83rd minute before doubling his tally in the 87th to salvage a point for the Prosperity Boys.

It’s now an interesting race for the NPFL24 Golden Boot, and as it stands, Robert Mizo and Sikiru Alimi now lead the Golden Boot race with nine goals each from 11 games.

Despite the draw, Mizo and his teammates remain deeply rooted at the bottom of the table in 19th place with just 10 points, while their visitors remain in 8th with 16 points.

Looking ahead, Bayelsa United, who are now without a win in their last six games, will now be looking forward to their South-South Derby game against Rivers United on Sunday.
