This groundbreaking championship serves as a stage for Africa’s premier football clubs to participate in a ‘Super Competition.’
Crafted meticulously, the AFL’s debut season showcases the epitome of African club football, inviting enthusiasts across the continent and worldwide to revel in the splendor of the beautiful game as it thrives on African soil.
The brainchild of an extraordinary collaboration between CAF and FIFA, this remarkable league mirrors Africa’s diversity and football prowess, with eight distinguished teams representing three regional blocks: North, Central West, and South-East.
Goliaths such as Al Ahly Football Club from Egypt, Esperance Sportive de Tunis from Tunisia, and Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club stand tall.
In the Central-West region, NPFL side Enyimba Football Club and the DRC’s Tout Puissant Mazembe compete with pride.
Representing the South-East are powerhouses Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club from South Africa, Atletico Petroleos de Luanda from Angola, and Tanzania’s Simba Sports Club.
Excitement mounts for the first AFL draw taking place in Cairo, Egypt, on September 2, 2023, at 19:00 (Cairo Time).

The competition employs the usual home-and-away framework, commencing with knockout quarter-finals and culminating in gripping semi-finals, ultimately leading to the grand finale – all contested over two legs.
Save the date for this historic four-week spectacle, beginning with the grand Opening Ceremony and the first match on October 20, 2023, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Semi-finals will unfold from October 19 to November, while the crowning of the AFL victor is set for November 5 and 11, 2023.
