Enugu Rangers International Football Club has bolstered their attacking options after the team confirmed the signing of highly-rated forward Ekeson Okorie.
The 20-year-old joins the reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions on a free transfer after his contract with Bayelsa United expired, Elegbetetv reports.
Okorie’s arrival adds another dimension to Rangers’ already potent attack.
The youngster impressed during his two-year loan spell with Bayelsa United from Cynosure FC of Abakaliki.
Despite Bayelsa United’s struggles against relegation last season, Okorie managed to shine through, contributing a commendable eight goals and four assists in 30 league appearances.
However, Bayelsa United have revealed their disappointment at Okorie’s decision not to extend his loan deal in a statement released on Thursday.
The club acknowledged Okorie’s dedication and impressive performances, expressing their best wishes for his future endeavours, including a potential call-up to Super Eagles.
“We enjoyed your time here with us, your dedication and commitment to the club is worth emulating by players. Our prayer is for you to excel in your new club as well as wearing the national team jersey,” the Bayelsa United statement read.
While the details of Okorie’s contract with Rangers are undisclosed, his arrival signifies the club’s ambition to retain their NPFL title and potentially make a strong display in continental competitions.
Enugu Rangers fans will be hoping Okorie can replicate his Bayelsa United form and propel the team to further success.
