Kwara United were on Wednesday forced to a goalless draw by their NPFL counterparts Doma United in matchday 12 at the Ilorin Stadium in what Coach Kabir Dogo termed ‘a huge setback’.
The Harmony Boys approached the game with much enthusiasm, but it wasn’t enough to breakdown the time-wasting tactics of the Savannah Tigers, who have their goalkeeper Kingdom Osayi to thank.
Coach Dogo claimed that the result was a big setback, blaming it on time-wasting antics by the away team.
“The referee, I think, was too lenient with them despite wasting much time. In the first half, we played less than 30 minutes as their players were falling all around the field. It’s negative football,” he said.
At the other end, Coach Akinade Onigbinde of Doma United commended Osayi for the wonderful performance; he said their plan in Ilorin was to extend their unbeaten run.
“It’s a good game; the result was exactly our wish; we studied them and worked on their weaknesses and strengths because they are one of the best in the league.“
Meanwhile, Ovoke Bernard was voted Man of the Match after his stellar performance.
The 26-year-old winger expressed disappointment at not winning the game, which, according to him, would have been an added value to the team’s objective this season.
The draw leaves Coach Dogo and his boys in the 13th spot with just 15 points, while Doma United remain in third place, seven points clear of their hosts.
The Afonja Warriors will now continue to work hard to achieve the set objectives for the season as they look to bounce back to winning ways when they host Niger Tornadoes on Sunday.
