After four years at Rangers International, Uche Akubueze John, is on the verge of joining Rivers United FC as a free agent for the upcoming 2023/24 NPFL season.
With his vast experience in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and continental competitions, Uche John’s arrival promises to bolster the Port Harcourt outfit’s defense as they aim for success in the new campaign.
After an impressive four-year stint at the coal city side, the former captain of the Flying Antelopes finally bids farewell.
Having joined the Enugu side in 2019, Uche John leaves behind a legacy of unwavering commitment and dedication to the success of Rangers Int’l FC.
However, his contract coming to an end has paved the way for an exciting new chapter in his football journey as he is set to join the Stanley Eguma side as a free agent.
Elegbetetv can confirm that Uche John’s decision to join Rivers United was made after careful consideration, as he believes in the vision and direction set by the club’s manager, Stanley Eguma.
The move will see Uche John reunite with former teammate, Shedrack Asiegbu and embark on a fresh challenge with a side that has been making waves in Nigerian football.
The 31-year-old defender earned the prestigious title of the new captain of the Flying Antelopes during the previous season.
This appointment came after the unanimous approval of his selection by teammates.
Over the years, he has displayed his defensive prowess in numerous NPFL matches, representing both Enyimba and Rangers International from 2016 to 2022 and arrives Rivers United with a wealth of experience.
His contributions to the teams were not limited to defending; he also managed to find the back of the net three times during this period.
Uche John’s experience extends beyond the domestic league, as he has actively participated in 12 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup games.
His arrival at the Port Harcourt based side comes as a replacement for Ndasi Denis, who departed Rivers United FC as a free agent.
Denis’s pursuit of joining APR FC in Rwanda unfortunately hit a snag, and the Nigerian defender’s addition to the team will undoubtedly help fill the void left by Denis’s departure.
