Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma has praised Remo Stars for their performance in the recent Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) showdown, despite his team’s convincing 2-0 victory.

In a rescheduled NPFL matchday one fixture at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium, the Pride of Rivers secured their victory with two goals, one from Alex Oyowah’s penalty kick and another from Andy Okpe’s powerful strike.

However, Eguma was particularly impressed with the performance of his goalkeeper, who made over seven crucial saves to deny Remo Stars any scoring opportunities.

Coach Eguma said that their opponents had given them a good fight, holding possession for a very long time.

He revealed that he had to switch and hit Remo Stars on the counter to neutralise their tactics.

However, he commended their effort and the game they had played, saying that they had tried but that Rivers United had answers to their tactics.

Eguma also noted that he was prepared to counter Remo Stars’ tactics, even bringing in Andy Okpe, who wasn’t initially in the lineup.

.”Well, was a good game, my players rose to the occasion despite all the journey that we made within this period. I think I’ll commend their effort, because they really lived up to expectations,” he said.

The former NPFL champion was also excited about his team’s first win of the season, believing it will boost their morale and confidence.

“It was a good one for us,” he said. “The first win of the season has really lightened the spirit of my team having lost the first match in Kaduna against Tornadoes. This win will fire us up waiting for the next game against Kwara United.”

With their recent success and three points in the bag, Rivers United are now preparing to host Kwara United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in what seems to be another cracker.
