Nigerian forward Odion Jude Ighalo displayed his scoring brilliance by netting his 10th goal of the Saudi Pro League season in a thrilling match between Al-Wedha and Al-Ittihad on Monday night.
Despite an early lead secured by Ighalo, Al Wedha suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium.
The intense encounter witnessed Ighalo break the deadlock just before halftime, giving his team the edge.
However, despite their opponents being reduced to ten men late in the game, Al-Ittihad managed to stage a dramatic comeback, clinching victory with two late goals by Moroccan striker Abderrazak Hamdallah.
Although Ighalo put in a solid performance, attempting three shots with one on target throughout the entire match, he and his team couldn’t hold onto their lead.
With this latest goal, Ighalo has now reached double figures in the Saudi Pro League, scoring 10 goals in 19 league appearances, albeit without recording any assists.
Al-Wedha currently sits in ninth place in the league table with 26 points, trailing their opponents by 11 points and league leaders Al-Hilal by 33 points.
Following this defeat, Al-Wedha finds themselves without a win in their last four league matches.
Looking forward, Ighalo and his teammates aim to return to winning form as they prepare to face Al-Taawoun in their upcoming fixture on Thursday.
