Henry Onyekuru put on a man-of-the-match performance to steer his team, Al-Fayha Drcare, to a hard-fought victory over their host, Al-Akhdoud, in the Saudi Professional League over the weekend.
The Prince Hathloul bin Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium witnessed the prowess of three Nigerian players, with Onyekuru, Saviour Godwin and Anthony Nwakaeme all feature for their respective teams.
Onyekuru’s Impactful Performance
Henry Onyekuru proved to be the decisive factor in the match, scoring one goal and assisting another, while his compatriot Saviour Godwin also found the back of the net. Tony Nwakaeme featured in Al-Fayha’s victory over Al-Akhdoud.
The Nigerian midfielder opened the scoring for the visiting Al-Fayha side in their 2-1 away win against Al-Akhdoud at the Prince Hathloul Bin Abdul Aziz Sport City Stadium last Friday.
The former Galatasaray star broke the deadlock for the visitors just 29 minutes into the game after being set up by Abdelhamid Sabiri.
Saviour Godwin then pulled his team back into the game just before the interval after he was assisted by Álex Collado.
Henry Onyekuru then turned provider in the 66th minute as he combined beautifully with Fashion Sakala to score the winning goal that sealed the victory and all three points for Al-Fayha.
Onyekuru’s Contribution to Al-Fayha’s Success
Since his move to the Saudi League, the 26-year-old midfielder, who produced over three shots and two goals against Al-Akhdoud, now has two goals and two assists to his name in ten appearances for Al-Fayha so far.
The narrow win helps Al-Fayha move up the Saudi Pro League table as they sit in 8th position with just 14 points after 10 league games, while their hosts remain 7 points below in 14th position.
Looking ahead, Henry Onyekuru, who was rated highest after the game with an 8.7 rating, will be hoping to continue his stunning form when Al-Fayha visits Al-Ain in the AFC Champions League on Tuesday.
