RS Berkane has ousted Nigerian Premier League representatives, Bendel Insurance, from the CAF Confederation Cup after a closely-fought match in Morocco.
RS Berkane secured their advancement with a narrow 1-0 win, effectively eliminating Bendel Insurance from the CAF Confederation Cup.
The game saw Youssef Zghoudi’s early first-half goal, which managed to bypass Bendel Insurance’s offside trap.
Bendel Insurance, lacking their star player Imade Osarenkhoe, struggled to score any goal at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
It was a disappointing outcome for the Benin Arsenal side, who had previously drawn 2-2 with RS Berkane in Benin City’s Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Having claimed the championship title in 2022, RS Berkane now progresses to the group stage with a 3-2 aggregate score.
As for Bendel Insurance, the Federation Cup champions, they must now switch their attention towards their NPFL campaign, commencing today across Nigeria.
Bendel Insurance will be facing a formidable challenge in the midweek clash against the defending champions, Enyimba of Aba.
At the other end, Rivers United are the only Nigerian representative left in the competition and they will be locking horns with Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
In the first leg, the Port Harcourt outfit played to a goalless draw against the Burkinabe team.
It’s a tough blow for Bendel Insurance in the CAF Confederation Cup, but their determination in the NPFL and the upcoming face-off against Enyimba will surely give their fans something to hope for.
