LaLiga review, matchday three

Matchday three of the 2022-23 Spanish LaLiga brought excitement as Real Madrid and Real Betis Balompié maintained their perfect starts while Villarreal stayed unbeaten and Barcelona recorded yet another big win.

Karim Benzema rescued Real Madrid and preserved their perfect record late on while leaving Espanyol winless this season, at the RCDE Stadium.

Vinícius Júnior had put Los Blancos in front on 12 minutes but Joselu equalised with two minutes before halftime.

Benzema then netted in the 88th minute to put his side ahead once again and the Frenchman sealed the points with his second of the contest, in the 10th minute of second half stoppage time.

Real Betis Balompié are the second and final team with a perfect record this term following their 1-0 win against Osasuna on Friday.

Borja Iglesias netted the only goal of the game in the 34th minute to also bring an end to Osasuna’s perfect start to the campaign.

Robert Lewandowki hit a brace at Spotify Camp Nou as Barcelona put four goals past Real Valladolid on Sunday.

The Poland captain opened the scoring on 24 minutes and Pedri doubled the advantage of the Catalan giants two minutes before the break.

Lewandowski netted again four minutes after the hourmark and Sergi Roberto put the icing on the cake with Barça’s fourth in the second minute of injury time.

Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo recorded respective 1-0 away wins at Elche CF and Girona FC.

Brais Méndes and Iago Aspas were on target for Sociedad and Vigo respectively.

RCD Mallorca recorded a 2-0 win against Rayo Vallecano at Estadio de Vallecas.
