Enyimba Football Club’s participation in the African Football League (AFL) has come to an unfortunate conclusion after they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Wydad Casablanca on Thursday evening.
In a rather disheartening turn of events, Enyimba faced a defeat by their AFL rival, Wydad Casablanca, resulting in their exit from the first African Football League tournament.
The defending Champions of Nigerian League came into the second leg with high hopes of overturning their previous weekend’s first-leg loss.
However, Wydad dealt a severe blow to the reigning champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Early in the match, El Amloud, the playmaker, opened the scoring for the hosts, leaving Enyimba’s players in disarray just four minutes into the game.
While Enyimba was still trying to regain their footing, Harkass extended the lead by scoring from a low-cross on the left flank, doubling Wydad’s advantage.
Yahia Attiyat Allah sealed Enyimba’s fate by scoring in the forty-third minute, eliminating the two-time CAF Champions League winners from the AFL.
NPFL fans had high hopes for Enyimba in the African Football League, but their journey endes in a show of shame as they were eliminated from the competition without managing to score a single goal.
It’s worth noting that this is the second time Wydad Casablanca has eliminated an NPFL team from a CAF competitions.
Enyimba will now return back to Nigeria to focus their attention on the local league, with the hopes of retaining the title they won last season.
