Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom continues to be Ajax savior as he secured their 4-1 victory over Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie with his third goal of the season.
Akpom, who had already scored in a 2-0 win against Volendam earlier in the week, started on the bench at Johan Cruijff Arena on Sunday, a decision made by Coach Van’t Schip.
In the first half, Ajax dominated, with goals from Steven Bergwijn and Brian Brobbey putting them ahead 2-0.
Heerenveen managed to pull one back with a well-placed header by Luuk Brouwers just before halftime, making the score 2-1 in favor of Ajax.
At halftime, Ajax held a narrow lead, and in the second half, Heerenveen looked more threatening with seven goal attempts.
It was in the 73rd minute when Akpom was brought into the game to boost Ajax’s attack, and he did not disappoint.
In the 84th minute, the 28-year-old striker swiftly reacted to a rebound in the box and headed it home, securing Ajax’s third goal and providing a cushion for the Dutch giants.
Akpom wasn’t done yet, as he notched his second goal of the game and Ajax’s fourth in stoppage time, receiving a pass from Steven Berghuis in the box and cleanly finishing it into the Heerenveen goal.
With three goals in seven appearances, Chuba Akpom has been a standout performer for Ajax.
As they prepare to host Brighton in the Europa League on Thursday night, Akpom will undoubtedly be hoping to continue his goal-scoring streak and further rescue Ajax from relegation.
His impact on the team recently is undeniable, and fans will be hoping to see more of his incredible performances on the field obviously.
