Rovers FC of Calabar could only salvage a point during their Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign on Saturday after watching their opponents, Dakkada FC, come from behind to secure a 1-1 draw.
Rovers came into the Akwa-Cross derby against their neighbours, looking to continue their winning formula.
On the other end, after recording their first victory of the season with an emphatic win over Edel FC last Saturday, Dakkada came into the game hoping to continue to build on the momentum, but both sides could only share the spoils.
The Akwa Ibom side rallied from behind to secure a late draw during their matchday four clash at the Uyo Township Stadium.
After a tensed opening few minutes, the Pride of Cross River drew the first blood when their midfielder Joshua Sunday opened scoring for the visitors barely 21 minutes into the game.
While the home team kept fighting for an equaliser, the visiting side kept pushing to double their lead, but the first half ended with a narrow lead.
The hosts resumed the second half as the better side, and their efforts paid off when they were awarded a penalty barely seven minutes before stoppage time.
The former NPFL side waited till the 83rd minute to level the scores as Aniekan Ekpe cooly converted the resulting penalty to make the scoreline 1-1.
Both sides kept pushing for the winning goal but failed to utilise their chances, as points were shared in Uyo at the final whistle.
The Samson Unuanel side will surely be the happier side after grabbing a point on the road, as they will now look forward to hosting Edel FC at the UJ Esuene Stadium during their next fixture on Sunday.
