Nigerian international Joe Aribo has finally scored his first goal of the season in Southampton big home victory over Swansea.
After featuring in 18 league matches, the 27-year-old Super Eagles star finally hit the target, inspiring Southampton to a massive win over their visitors.
The Boxing Day clash in the Championship saw Aribo score the opening goal at St. Mary’s Stadium as Southampton crushed Swansea 5-0 on Tuesday.
The Nigerian star fired his team ahead barely 17 minutes into the game as both sides headed to the interval with a narrow margin.
But the home team resumed the second half with greater fighting spirit, and Samuel Edozie quickly doubled the lead two minutes in.
Ryan Fraser bagged a brace within 13 minutes to hand Southampton a 4-0 lead before Che Adams scored at the end of the game to complete the rout and seal the win.
Despite featuring for the entire minutes of the game, Joe Aribo could only manage just two shots, winning five duels.
The victory propelled Joe Aribo and his teammates to third place on the table with 48 points, 20 points ahead of Swansea in 17th place and 10 points behind league leaders Leicester City.
Looking ahead, they will be looking to carry the momentum to their next fixture, where they will be hosting Plymouth Argyle on Friday.
