The Super Eagles duo’s hopes were high, but Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side orchestrated a remarkable second-half turnaround, preventing an EFL Cup upset and securing a 3-1 victory.
The game began with the hosts trailing just three minutes in, as McAteer found the net. Liverpool missed several golden opportunities to equalize before halftime.
However, Liverpool swiftly drew level after the break, with Gakpo slotting one into the bottom corner just three minutes into the second half.
The home side then seized the lead later in the half, thanks to Szoboszlai’s powerful strike from the edge of the box, and Jota’s exquisite backheel, securing their triumph.
While Iheanacho and Ndidi’s journey in the EFL Cup has come to an end, the victory propels Liverpool into the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
The Nigerian star players will now shift their focus to the Championship, with the ultimate goal of returning back to EPL.
The next challenge for these Super Eagles stars will be a visit to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.
Liverpool at the other end will be gearing up for a Premier League clash against Tottenham on Saturday.
