
The 2022-23 German Bundesliga season got underway on Friday as matchday one came to an entertaining conclusion on Sunday.
Reigning champions Bayern Munich kick-started proceedings by thumping UEFA Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 at Deutsche Bank Park.
The Bavarians ran riot, netting five first-half goals through Joshua Kimmich, Benjamin Pavard, Sadio Mané, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry.
Randal Kolo Muani pulled one back for Frankfurt on 64 minutes but Musiala netted his second and put the icing on the cake with a goal in the 83rd minute.
Borussia Dortmund started their campaign with a 1-0 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Marco Reus found the back of the net inside 10 minutes as Erdin Terzic’s charges held on for maximum points even as Leverkusen’s Lukás Hrádecky was sent off late on for a handball offense.

RasenBallsport Leipzig were held to a one-all draw at VfB Stuttgart on Sunday.
Christopher Nkunku rolled over his blistering form from last term as he netted in the opening eight minutes but Leipzig were pegged back through Naouirou Ahamada’s goal in the 31st minute.
Borussia Mönchengladbach came from a goal down to defeat 1899 Hoffenheim 3-1 on Saturday.
Robert Skov put Hoffenheim ahead on 25 minutes but Mönchengladbach battled a secured the points through goals from Ramy Bensebaini, Marcus Thuram and Nico Elvedi on 42, 71 and 78 minutes respectively.
FC Union Berlin defeated Hertha BSC 3-1 on Saturday at the An der alten Forsterei.
Goals from Jordan Siebatcheu, Sheraldo Becker and Robin Knoche helped Union to three points despite Dodi Lukebakio’s consolation goal for Hertha in the 85th minute.
SC Freiburg comfortably dispatched FC Augsburg 4-0 at WWK Arena on Saturday.
Michelle Gregoritsch, Vincenzo Grifo, Matthias Ginter and Ritsu Doan were all on target for Christian Streich’s side.
VfL Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen shared the spoils in a two-all draw at Volkswagen Arena on Saturday.
Lukas Nmecha broke the deadlock on 11 minutes but a quickfire double from Niclas Füllkrug and Leonardo Bittencourt in the 21st and 23rd minute put Bremen ahead.
With six minutes left, Joshua Guilavogui rescued a point for Wolfsburg in front of their home faithful.
FC Köln ruined the celebration as 10-man Schalke 04 lost 3-1 on their return to the German top-flight at RheinEnergie Stadion on Sunday.
A red card to Dominic Drexler in the 35th minute paved way for Köln to find it easy as Luca Kilian scored on 49 minutes and Jonas Hector netted in the 62nd minute to put the hosts ahead.
However, Schalke found a way to pull a goal back and set up a grandstand finish through Marius Bütler’s 74th minute goal but all hopes were quenched as Dejan Ljubicic sealed the points for Köln with a goal on 80 minutes.
VfL Bochum left their home fans disappointed following their 1-2 loss to FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday.
Karim Onisiwo netted the opener and put Mainz ahead on 26 minutes but Kevin Stöger restored parity for Bochum in the 39th minute.
Onisiwo was the hero at the end of the day as the Austrian striker stole three points for Mainz with a goal in the 77th minute.
