Despite his heroics, Atalanta had to endure a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat in a thrilling encounter.
Lookman came into the game with a fine form, having helped Super Eagles crush Sao Tome last weekend and it earned him a spot in Atalanta’s starting lineup at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
The match kicked off positively for La Dea, as Teun Koopmeiners found the net in the 21st minute.
However, Fiorentina swiftly responded with goals from Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Martinez Quarta.
Fiorentina entered halftime with the lead, but Atalanta roared back in the second half. Lookman, the Super Eagles’ shining star, delivered a moment of brilliance in the 53rd minute.
A skillful exchange of passes with Marten De Roon led to Lookman’s powerful strike from the center of the box, equalizing the score at 2-2.
Just six minutes later, Lookman made way for Mario Pasalic.
Unfortunately, Atalanta’s hopes were dashed when Christian Kouame netted Fiorentina’s third goal in the 76th minute.
Despite their efforts, Atalanta couldn’t find an equalizer, resulting in a hard-fought 3-2 defeat.
Lookman’s stellar performance and his first Serie A goal this season shows he still got his firing boots intact and it will surely leave fans eager to see more from the talented forward in the upcoming matches.
