The anticipation for the new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season is about to get even more exciting as the ValueJet Cup, an offseason football tournament, is set to kick off.
The prestigious tournament will take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, and promises to be a thrilling event for football lover in the country.
Scheduled to begin on August 4th, the ValueJet Cup will see the top eight clubs in the NPFL vying for supremacy on the field.
With the grand finale set for August 10th, football fans can expect a week full of intense competition, showcasing the best stars Nigeria’s domestic league has to offer.
The Chairman of the ValueJet Cup organizing committee, Otunba Tade Azeez, expressed his excitement about the upcoming tournament.
In a statement released, he highlighted the purpose of the competition: to prepare the participating clubs for the new NPFL season and upcoming continental football tournaments.
“We have invited eight clubs for the tournament, and the communication with the clubs has been positive. The list of the invited clubs includes those that will also compete in the prestigious CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, alongside some of the top NPFL clubs,” said Chairman Azeez.
The ValueJet Cup made its debut last year, and this edition aims to build on that success and take it to even greater heights.
Otunba Tade Azeez shared his optimism for the tournament’s second edition, expressing his desire to create a highly competitive event that will help the participating clubs prepare for the upcoming 2023/2024 NPFL season and continental competitions.
An important aspect of the ValueJet Cup is the support and contribution from the tournament’s sponsor, ValueJet Airline.
Otunba Tade Azeez was quick to express gratitude, acknowledging the airline’s role in nurturing the growth of domestic football in Nigeria.
“We want to appreciate our sponsor ValueJet airline for their significant contribution to the growth of domestic football in Nigeria. We can’t wait to connect with the football community in Ogun State this year; the support we received from the football fans last season was overwhelming,” said Chairman Azeez.
The organizers of the ValueJet Cup also took the opportunity to thank ValueJet Airline for their continuous support, recognizing their key role in boosting Nigerian football.
Ogun State is no stranger to hosting the prestigious football tournament, and this year promises to be just as exciting as the previous edition.
The defending champions, Remo Stars Football Club, hail from Ogun State and are eager to defend their title in front of their home crowd.
Last year, they secured a dominant 3-0 victory against Smart City in the final, leaving a lasting impression on fans.
The ValueJet Cup is not only an opportunity for clubs to display their star players but also a chance for fans to witness top-tier football action in their own backyard.
So mark your calendars and get ready to witness the best of Nigerian football in the ValueJet Cup,
